In Class Practice: Reverse Engineering DH Projects (40 minutes)

In groups, use the sources/processing/presentation framework we discussed in class to discuss and identify each layer of the project. As a group complete Parts 1 and 2.

Group member roles: 

  1. Facilitator of instructions and time keeper
  2. Scribe for transcribing key points in verbal discussion and inputting into blog post
  3. Editor for cleaning up and re-summarizing discussion, making sure everyone’s perspectives are included and publishing blog post
  4. Designate one computer for scribe and editor to work on, inform professor of “Author” (WordPress account name).
  5. Everyone else active contributor to discussion and assignment.

Part 1: Identify the layers in complete sentences (15 minutes)

Take 5 minutes to examine the digital humanities project website.

Part 2: Verbally discuss and write a reflection paragraph that answers the following question (15 minutes)

What are the effect of all these choices? Instead of focusing on how much you like the project, try to focus on what the project conveys and the epistemological effects of the decisions the project team has made.
